This do-or-die fixture for the hosts comes hot on the heels of a humiliating 5-0 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League at the weekend – a result which has cast further doubt on manager Erik ten Hag's future in the Old Trafford hot seat.

The hosts come up against a Bayern which claimed their place in the next round with two matches to spare. FC Hollywood are on an incredible unbeaten run of 39 Champions League group-stage games (35 wins, four draws), with their last loss a 3-0 defeat dished out by Paris Saint-Germain all the way back in the 2017-18 campaign.

There does remain some cause for optimism for United coming into this crunch fixture, however. Bayern slipped to a shock 5-1 Bundesliga thrashing at the hands of Frankfurt on Sunday – a result which came off the back of a draw at home to Copenhagen for Harry Kane and co last time out in the UCL. Could the Theatre of Dreams deliver for United?

It is do-or-die tonight for Manchester United as they face Bayern Munich in the Champions League needing results to go their way to reach the knockout stage.

The Red Devils are not in control of their own fate going into the final round of Group A fixtures, which sees them bottom of the group and a point below Copenhagen and Galatasaray, who face each other.

Victory is therefore essential for United, who were smashed 3-0 by Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Saturday. Beating Bayern combined with a draw in the other group game would then see United through to the last-16, while a Europa League consolation spot is on the cards if one end of the bargain is not held up.

However, it is not only Erik ten Hag's side hoping to bounce back from a bad defeat with Bayern hammered 5-1 at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Despite having already sealed top spot, it means the Germans have a point to prove and Harry Kane will certainly fancy getting back to winning ways on his club return to English soil.

Victor Lindelof was absent on the weekend so is a doubt here. Casemiro is back in training for the Red Devils but not expected to make Tuesday's game.

There is reportedly a chance Mason Mount can return for United but they will miss Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, Amad Diallo and Tyrell Malacia.

Marcus Rashford, back from a ban in the Champions League, could be drafted into the attack but missed training on Monday due to illness.

Munich winger Serge Gnabry has been ruled out after picking up an injury on the weekend. The former Arsenal man will miss out alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Bouna Sarr. Tuchel has confirmed Harry Kane will play.

Bayern will surely produce a reaction to their big defeat on the weekend, and while the same can be said of United these big European nights have not been Ten Hag's strength.

United's opponents tonight also suffered a shock defeat in the Bundesliga at the weekend. Harry Kane and co suffered a massive 5-1 defeat away to Frankfurt which gave Thomas Tuchel's team their first defeat of the season to leave them four points off Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen, albeit with a game in hand.

The Red Devils are bottom of Group A after five games, and they must beat Bayern at Old Trafford, as well as needing Copenhagen v Galatasaray to finish a draw, to have any chance of going through.

United need plenty to go in their favour to reach the knockout stages, then, and their confidence will be low after suffering a shock 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Man Utd must beat Group A winners Bayern Munich on Tuesday in order to stand any chance of progressing from the Champions League group stage. And even that might not be enough. Any result other than a Utd victory would see the Red Devils finish bottom of the group and wave goodbye to European football for the rest of the season.

A humiliating 0-3 home defeat to Bournemouth has left Erik ten Hag’s men in a tailspin that they need to recover from quickly. Fortunately for them though, Bayern were also on the wrong end of a hammering at the weekend, a 5-1 shocker at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt.

Utd no longer control their own fate, but their task is simple. They have to win. Three points at Old Trafford on Tuesday, plus a draw between Copenhagen and Galatasaray, would see the Red Devils qualify for the knockout rounds.

If Man Utd were to beat Munich, and either Copenhagen or Galatasaray were to win their final game, however, ten Hag’s men would finish third and get funneled into the Europa League.

In a campaign that’s seen Utd lose two games from winning positions and squander a two-goal lead to draw another, while scoring 12 and conceding 14, there’s no telling what could happen at Old Trafford. It certainly won’t be dull.
